Laboratory Manager – Geoscientist / Engineer

In addition to developing and implementing innovative and effective environmental, water, energy and sustainability solutions, we operate a geochemical laboratory providing novel technologies for the determination of weathering rates of natural and anthropogenic materials and the assessement of geochemical risk for the mining sector.

We are seeking to employ a geoscientist or engineer to take responsibility for managing the laboratory and coordinating and conducting testwork, and finalising reports for our growing analytical work load.

In this role you will be working on a broad range of projects for public and private sector clients in Australia and overseas.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Graduate tertiary qualifications, with post graduate credentials being highly regarded;
  • A minimum of ~5 years work experience;
  • Strong computing and data management skills;
  • Advanced level of competence with Excel;
  • Knowledge of gas and water analytical procedures;
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills (proficiency in a second language will be an advantage);
  • The ability to deliver laboratory reports to a high technical standard;
  • Problem solving and technical innovation skills;
  • Proven Project Management skills to complete projects on time and on budget;
  • The ability to develop and cost proposals;
  • The ability to identify and develop new opportunities and clients for Earth Systems;
  • The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams;
  • Ability and desire to travel nationally and internationally to establish testwork programs on site;
  • Knowledge of and skills with electronics would be an advantage; and
  • A passion for the environment.

 

The position will be based in the Melbourne office, with some opportunities to work across Australia and possibly overseas.  An attractive salary package will be provided depending on experience.

Senior Ecologist/Ecological Impact Assessment Specialist

With offices in UK, Australia, China, Lao PDR, Senegal and Rwanda, Earth Systems is a growing environmental and sustainability consulting group that is seeking a highly motivated, ambitious fauna ecologist who is passionate about their work.

 

This is a great opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to help develop grow the Earth Systems’ and work internationally. Base office location can be selected from any of the following Earth Systems offices- Australia (Melbourne), UK (Bristol), Senegal (Dakar) or Rwanda (Kigali).

 

Earth Systems develops and implements innovative and effective environmental, water, energy and sustainability solutions, providing specialist advice and hands-on capabilities in a diverse range of areas related to environmental management. Ecological assessment is a key aspect of many of Earth Systems’ projects.

 

We are currently seeking to employ a senior specialist ecologist with international experience in ecological impact assessment to join our team and help develop and expand our business. In this role you will be responsible for working on projects for a wide range of public and private sector clients overseas. There are opportunities for people with a few years of experience through to senior partnership level.

 

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a relevant post-graduate qualification (PhD or DPhil or equivalent);
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience with fauna ecology/wildlife conservation, including direct experience in ecological impact assessment;
  • Be able to undertake fieldwork overseas on a regular basis;
  • Have experience working on international ecology projects (preferably within West and East Africa and Southeast Asia);
  • Have experience of managing an in-country sub-consultant team;
  • Have experience of reporting in accordance with IFC PS6;
  • Be able to demonstrate leadership capabilities across the spectrum of their responsibilities;
  • Be able to identify and develop new opportunities for Earth Systems;
  • Have the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Have exceptional written and verbal English language communication skills; and
  • Be passionate about the environment.

 

Previous international experience in EIA and environmental management/approvals in relation to infrastructure, resources and other large scale projects will be highly regarded and other language capabilities, particularly French,  would be an advantage. Experience with biodiversity offsets and/or primate conservation is also desirable.

 

The position will be located in the selected base office, with significant opportunities to work overseas. An attractive salary package will be provided depending on experience.

Biochar – Plant Operator and Site Manager – Full, Part-time or Casual positions available

Are you passionate about the environment? Do you want to contribute to a new sustainable industry that will take steps towards solving our global warming problem? We need enthusiastic and hands on people to help run our new technology as we build a new and sustainable industry.

Principal Function
As a key member of the Carbon and Energy Team at Earth Systems, you will be involved in the daily operation, maintenance, and site management of the CharMaker biochar production facility.

Principal Duties
• Operate CharMaker technology including materials handling of biomass and post-production systems for quality product outputs. This includes operation of a wheel loader for materials handling.
• Maintain equipment onsite for functional and safe operation.
• Assist in setting and achieving production targets
• Manage all site operations including logistics of consumables, product deliveries & site safety operations. Liaise with client and other contractors as required.
• Carry out quality control testing & improve outcomes where possible
• Contribute to improved performance of the Charmaker technology and be part of design changes for future technology builds.
• Support continued development of new technologies for the CharMaker suite.
• Prepare basic production reports. Complete basic site paper work/permits as required.
• Potential for national or overseas projects as needed for CharMaker production site installations.

What you bring
• You will be practical with good problem solving skills and keen to improve the performance of systems and technologies. You will be physically fit.
• You will be a self-starter that can operate autonomously onsite with a drive for production results. You will have experience in site operation and can easily demonstrate your achievements in attaining production targets of a process.
• You can demonstrate previous basic site management experience for safety, quality and a clean site operations with good basic paperwork.
• You have a background in trades and/or engineering and can demonstrate practical hands-on/engineering skills.
• Welding/fitter type skills/trades will be well regarded but are not essential.
• Mobile plant and/or construction tickets will be well regarded but are not essential.
• Truck licences (MR or higher) would be well regarded but are not essential.
